FDNY Line of Duty Death
February 3, 1918 - LODD
Fireman Michael Wall, 63
Engine 151
FDNY. Staten Island, New York
Fireman Wall died as a result of injuries he sustained December 31, 1917, when he fell down a pole hole in quarters.
At about 7:00 p.m. all the lights in the quarters of Engine Company 151 became extinguished through some trouble in the powerhouse. Fireman Wall, while proceeding to the toilet, fell through the pole hole in the rear of quarters and was rendered unconscious. Dr. Renwick was called and Wall was removed to the dormitory and placed in bed The extent of his injuries could not be determined at once, but evidently he injured his spine. Medical Officer White was notified by telephone, as was Acting Chief Dunne of the 21st Battalion. (From "The Last Alarm" by Boucher, Urbanowicz & Melahn, 2007)
RIP. Never forget.
