NYC posts official FDNY (Fire and EMS) detailed response statistics - monthy/annual and by borough/citywide. (currently posting 2013-2019) Note that official department numbers may differ from site numbers and other non-official sources, but usually are slow to be released.

2013-2022 official FDNY (Fire & EMS) and NYPD Incident Response Times are also available and shown by weekly trend charts.

https://www.nyc.gov/site/911reporting/reports/response-time-trends.page

If you go to that site, there is a significant amount of information, from 2013 through the end of 2022, related to response times. You can interact with the charts and the increase size to read easily. Approximate response times from charts:

FDNY (Fire)
Structure Fires 5 minutes (stayed level thru 2022)
Non-Structure Fires 7-13 minutes (stayed level thru 2022 w/2 spikes))
Medical Emergencies 9-10 minutes (stayed level thru 2022)
Non-Medical Emergencies 11-13 minutes (increased thru 2022)

FDNY (EMS)
LifeThreatening 10 minutes (stayed level thru 2022)
Non-Life Threatening 13-20 minutes (increased thru 2022)

NYPD (Crimes in Progress)
Critical 8-10 minutes (stayed level thru 2022)
Serious 11-15 minutes (increased thru 2022)
Non-Critical 25-27 minutes (increased thru 2022)

Here in UK, you can wait for over TWELVE HOURS for an ambulance. Ambulance staff want a pay rise and have walked out on strike twice in December last year.

Are they private organizations, city, contracted EMS organizations? Do the UK fire brigades respond to EMS calls and if so, what is their role if the ambulance services are independent and have lengthy response times?

Hello Mack, all the best for the New Year.

The ambulance are not privately run, they are run by the National Health Service. For example I live in St Helens near Liverpool. My ambulance service is called the North West Ambulance Service. They cover Merseyside(ie me) Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Cumbria. They are set response times but never reach that time. The main cause is not lack of ambulances, its because the A and E , sorry , Accident and Emgency Depatments can't cope with the amount of ambulances arriving there. So you wait 12 hours or more for an ambulance, but when you get to A and E there are at least maybe 20 other ambulances waiting to unload their casualties into the hospital.

No generally the Fire Serviced dont attend ambulance only emergencies. In fact the Fire Service members are also balloting whether to strike themselves. Ambulances on strike this Wednesday and the 23rd. Nurses going to strike on 18th and 19th.

Search Google the NHS strikes UK.

We just finished a 5 day Railway strike, with no trains running. This we have the ginger haired Prince of doom has his book released on Tuesday !
