The headquarters of the new Mertopolitan FD was re-dedicated in 1865.

" Firemen's Hall was an outstanding civic building with ornamental facade, high ceilings and windows and meeting rooms on the top floor, It was built in 1853 on Mercer Street, just south of Houston Street, as the headquarters and center of all administration and official activity for the Volunteer Department. In 1865, it became the headquarters of the new Metropolitan Fire Department.

The new commissioners of the paid department set up their offices in the front portion of the second floor. The Fire Alarm Central Officer was installed in 1878 after being moved from the basement of City Hall and took up offices in the rear of the second floor. There were two apparatus rooms on the first floor with a central hall and stairs. One apparatus room was used for the rigs of the commissioners. The other housed a hand-drawn hose cart to be manned by clerks and fire alarm personnel in case of a fire in the building."

"In 1914  FDNY Headquarters had outgrown the upper floors of the East 67th Street building, retocating its offices to the eleventh floor of the recently completed Municipal Building at 1 Centre Street. The fire telegraph, however, remained until it was moved to Central Park in 1922."

After the Brooklyn Fire Department became part of the FDNY in 1900, this building served  as the quarters of Ladder 110 and 118, Engine 207, and from 1947 to 1971, Battalion 31.

.....As kfd reported the HQ was at 110 Church St after the 11th fl of the Municipal Bldg & before moving to 250 Livingston St BKLYN....a little known fact is that before moving to BKLYN a Retired BC from the FDNY who was then a big wheel in the Port Authority offered the FDNY a couple of floors in the WTC....the FDNY declined....had they taken the offer who knows what would have happened to all the records ...history...& the rest of the FDNY staff on 9-11.

In 1914  FDNY headquarters moved to the Municipal Building on Centre Street.

Did it remain there during the entire period 1914 to 1970??l

I do know it was at 1 Centre during the 50's and 60's.

I guess it would be fair to say that if it was there  still in the 50s and 60s,  then the next move was to 110 Church Street.
