Fresno CA FF Critical After Falling Thru Roof 3/29/15 . . . with Video

Absolutly pray for and wish the quickest & very best recovery...

Did he really have to be venting a mess like that ?  l seemed to be  too far involved to be on THAT roof.

Hoping for a speedy recovery to the FF, saw this story and video on NBC Nightly News at 630pm. This job was a scary one.

Different parts of the country have different SOP's ! I would have vented the roof but I would have had a 2nd firefighter and a charged hose line. Yes, I may have lost 3 instead of 1. Fresno as well as many departments run understaffed. No monday morning quarterbacking here just prayers for the Capt. and all involved.

there actually was a second guy up on the roof, you can see it in the video...I just don't understand how if it was a garage fire, they didn't have any access into the garage door area in the first place....I pray for a full recovery for the brother

After watching this video many times, I also have my strong opinions as to the roof operations.  These opinions are all derived with the luxury of hindsight.  I will keep my opinions to myself, as we all have been on incidents where our tactics are questioned afterward.  The Captain, his crew, and the rest of the firefighters on the scene were executing the tactics they felt were best to bring the situation under control as quickly as possible.  As sometimes happens in this business, events happened in seconds that resulted in the Captain being very critically injured.  Now is the time for all of us to keep the Captain, his family and brother firefighters in our thoughts and prayers.  We can utilize the information from the video as part of our ongoing training to prevent, as much as possible, these catastrophic events from occurring when operating on the fireground.
