O thanks, so it goes by the face plate?
So the helmet has a leather front piece with the number of the company which is color coded to the type of unit it is and the member's rank or badge number. The insert (the color coded number) is also in the last year now being replicated on the back of the breathing apparatus to allow for identification from both sides.

You also have the Company Officers decal at the top of the white front piece:
1 bugle, Engine Lieutenant
2 bugles, Engine Captain
1 axe, Ladder Lieutenant
2 axes, Ladder Captain
1 Lyle gun, Rescue Lieutenant
2 Lyle guns, Rescue Captain
1 crossed bugle/ladder, Squad Lieutenant
2 crossed bugle/ladder, Squad Captain
1 bugle/anchor, Marine Lieutenant
2 bugles/anchor, Marine Captain
Not sure if hazmat uses the Lyle gun or not
