How many on the crew, and where did they ride?

Looking at this rig it looks like the only cab seats were for the chauffeur and officer. Where did the rest of the crew ride, and how many were on the crew each tour?
 
It's either a truck with a 2nd piece in the members write the 2nd piece or it's a piece that's special called and members already on scene man it when it arrives. Actually, that doesn't look like anything that Pierce manufacturers these days, makes me think it's probably an older piece that no longer in service.
 
I believe that there was an elevator (lift) on the side of the ladder to ride to the top. I remember reading this somewhere.
