In the U.S. the Fire Underwriters Labatory = "U.L." has recently complete tests on Lithium Batteries, but the result has not been published yet. I also found an article online about the Problems of "Dendrites" forming within Lithium Batteries and causing them to short out causing them to spontaneously ignite, when they are improperly charged, or the charger is defective or substandard. In the F.D.N.Y. Hazardous Materials Units are called to any fire involving Lithium Batteries and use of special over pack drums filled with a controlling substance to immerse the Lithium Battery/s sealing of the oxygen and control thermal output until the fire is extinguished. The other way is to use isolate the involved battery/s or vehicle etc. that has Lithium batteries inside and use "copious amounts of water." over a period of time to control the fire until the fire runs out of fuel. Small batteries can be emersed in adequate amounts of water and left emersed until rendered safe. Some U.S. fire departments are using special fire blankets to cover a vehicle that is battery powered and is on fire. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
