Similarly, during our Memorial Services on October 17, 1970 (four years after the 23rd Street Fire) it was announced that during the service a fire downtown at Box 583 had resulted in the death of a member of Rescue Co. 1.

Also in Chicago a few years ago while attending a service for the 21 members who lost their lives during the Stock Yards fire 2 members were killed after a roof collapse on the South Side.

As 811 posted above on 10-17-70 R*1 FF Edward Tuite was killed while operating on a roof....this occurred during the FDNY's Annual Memorial Service .....in '67..'68 & '69 the Annual Service was held at the site of the 23rd St Fire.... '70 was the 1st year the Ceremony returned to the 100th  St Monument...i remember we were standing in Ranks during the '70 Service & suddenly someone in the Brass on the dais must have been notified about FF Tuite....they all were suddenly whispering among themselves & some left.....we did not know what had happened but we knew it was something important....CONTINUED REST IN PEACE FF TUITE..... The following is a list of LODDs that occurred on 10-17 thru the years in the Fire Service... CONTINUED REST IN PEACE TO ALL.....    https://forums.firehouse.com/forum/in-the-line-of-duty/the-supreme-sacrifice/13327-supreme-sacrifice-10-17
