It is with regret the department announces the death Lt. Robert J. Ryan Jr. of E155, which occurred on Sunday, November 23rd, 2008, as a result of injuries sustained while operating at Staten Island Box 21, which was transmitted at 00:28 hours on November 23, 2008.  Signed Nicholas Scoppetta, Fire Commissioner, and Salvatore J. Cassano, Chief of Department.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR LT. ROBERT J. RYAN, JR.

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta will join family, friends and Fire Department members in paying their final respects to Lt. Robert J. Ryan, Jr., of Engine 155.  Lt. Ryan, 46, was critically injured on Nov. 23 while operating at a second-alarm fire at 39 Van Buren St. in the New Brighton neighborhood of Staten Island. He was transported to Richmond University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Lt. Ryan was a 17-year veteran of the Department.

Yes, this is true... I work all over S.I. and see a lot of parked cars with UFA placards and streets named after FDNY members, just thought it was a coincidence

And even more guys live on long island.
