Long Island bus crash

According to the Caro biography, Robert Moses intentionally designed all the overpasses on the Long Island Parkways too low to allow the use of buses. This was  to make it difficult for the unwashed masses of a large nearby city to visit the Long Island State Parks.
 
The idea of a ?parkway? in general was to not allow trucks/commercial vehicles to crowd up the park-like roadways. They did this buy building low clearance bridges. When built, the parkways were supposed to take the city folk on a more suburban and nature filled drive as a relaxation trip.
 
A lot can change in 55+ years . . . which is how long it has been since I drove on the Southern State Parkway, but in my day, it was all cars; NO COMMERCIAL VEHICLES (including buses and taxis) allowed. And you had to be blind (or texting) to miss the signs that told you so.
 
I wasn't there or on the bus, but, you would think one of the adults on the bus would have told the operator that his vehicle is not allowed to transverse that road. The bus passengers were all from Long Island and accordingly I would think the chaperones would know. Key word here is think. I may have overstepped my bounds. Thankfully, no one was killed.

Memory ...i am not second guessing anybody on that bus but you are right...i remember several charter bus trips that people on board had to give directions to the operator.
 
  They say the bus driver was using a passenger car GPS device, hence the directions to take the Parkway.
 
I think you can program them for different applications. One of our Enterprise drivers also drives a charter bus and he can go between car and bus or truck.
