These massive fires at "under construction complexes" are becoming a norm these days. I wonder if any cities are looking at making code changes to battle this? Seems like several approaches could be taken. 1 of the one something of is to reduce the amount of structures that could be left with open framing prior to the installation of sheet rock. That obviously would help reduce the flame spread.
Another more drastic idea would be to require metal framing instead of allowing wood framing in structures over a certain size. That obviously would be the best idea but would have an effect on the overall cost of a project. I'm not sure how these under construction structures are insured while they are being built. If they are insured, which I think they are, making the change to metal framing should drastically reduce insurance costs which may help offset the additional costs incurred.
