Captain Stewart, Lieutenant Wirth, Ladderman Roller and Hoseman Pollock died of the injuries they sustained when they were caught in a collapse of a wall a fire at the George W. Brooks Public School, at 57th Street and Haverford Avenue. Six other firemen were also injured. Hoseman Pollock died from his injuries on January 24, 1918 and Ladderman Roller died from his injuries on January 25, 1918.
