Captain Doyle died after suffering the effect of smoke inhalation while operating at a two-alarm apartment fire on Summerlea Street. Members of companies answering the first box alarm a short time later found Captain Doyle unconscious in the smoke filled basement and rushed him to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Captain Charles F. Bailey, 56
Engine Co. 46
Pittsburgh Fire Department. Pittsburgh, PA

Captain Bailey died after suffering the effects of smoke inhalation while operating at a fire at 218 Goodrich Street. Captain Bailey along with some of his men were fighting the fire in the attic. It wasn’t much of a fire, so he didn’t put a mask on when he climbed the stair to the attic, but the smoke was thick and acrid. He suddenly ran to a window and collapsed, his body hanging out over the roof. Firemen rushed to his aid. They placed him in the gutter of the roof to get fresh air, then carried him down through the house to the street level, where he was taken by police to the hospital.

December 15, 1942 - LODD
Fireman Michael Burke, 34
Engine Co. 3
Pittsburgh Fire Department. Pittsburgh, PA
