Back in the late 70's I was enrolled at Bunker Hill CC, went to school with a lot of guys from 24/23, 52/29, 16/6, 17/7, and 12/14/L4. Doing my EMT at E22/L13, got a call at 2AM for a hir and run. We found the shoes in  the street, found the body a block down, unresponsive. E22 said to hold the bus, send the morgue.

I'm alittle off track here, but Grump, I remember those were busy Boston Companies. (24/23, 52/29, 16/6, 17/7, 12/14/L4). I bet those guys had a few stories to tell too.

Back in the day (in Bed-Stuy), we referreed to a bus as "the meat wagon". Not on the air, but amongst ourselves.

Down south, at least in Tennessee, many EMS departments are separate services! You will hear, Unit, Car or Truck! My son in law is on in Dekalb County Georgia and they call it a Rescue but amongst members call it a Box! My department we simple refer to them a EMS followed by the unit number.

Calling for medic, squad, unit, rescue, car, bus, box, can get you several different things I guess! ::)

Same thing in DA Bronx.  (I sometimes think it was city wide back then)
