Queens- Hurricane Sandy Summary

Memos are being sent to units in our Batt for the following..................

1. Check...Start and operate de-watering pump for any problems at start of tours
2. Make sure the gasoline containers are full if needed for de-watering pump
3. Check Diesel Fuel Pump Cranks for manual operational usage
4. Check  and test the apparatus door chains for manual use to open and close
5. Check and secure all items in alley or rear of quarters

Any word on the companies being activated for the hurricane? I recall citywide having stuff set up for Irene.

Two evacuation teams working out of Engine 275 on the DARS system

Interesting point: Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn and both of Staten Island University Hospital's campuses are in Zone A.

G Man .......Whats your plans......I no you live on the island near 160.......Keep safe buddy..
I'm safe here with S.I. Fire Hqts just a few steps away. We seem to always get power restored quickly on my block, maybe it's because of my neighbors and their red & white trucks (LOL).

I  am guessing that if power does go out  in areas that effect firehouses there will be someone monitoring the radio via company apparatus.

It is a crime that the powers that be did not see fit to repair the numerous Alarm Boxes STILL out of service since the 2 Tornadoes on 9-16-10......these boxes certainly could be needed in the event of a widescale power outage/cell phone overload.
At least we have expensive bike lanes for the tree debris to be stacked in.

Evacuation teams are working with buses going around picking up homebound people that need to be evacuated.

The last incident we had was the microburst that occurred in Middle Village and Forest Hills.....It contuined out east as a tornado in Flushing and Bayside...........The Reserve Engine that is located in Engine 291 which is the next company west from us...........That unit was manned by Overtime members.......I beleive that as stated by tbendick these companys that will be activated for this storm will again be staffed by Overtime Officers, Chauffers and members........Last time the Divs and Batts put out the calls to companys requesting OT volunteers......Atleast this time there was enough time to put this in place since this storm has been known about.
