What is the purpose of this Engine that sits in the lot next to 92/44's Quarters ?!?!?

One of the many reserves in the city. Has afull set of equipment and can be used for major events

I thought all of the reserve units (especially engines) were housed indoors?

Due to space limitations many reserve pieces and 2nd pieces of soc support units are kept outside, many firehouses have large lots and use them to keep this equipment, many mechanincs trucks are also stored outside behind fences in lots.

He would say with all the companies they have closed recently they would be extra space in those houses to store the reserve equipment so it doesn't have to be punished by the weather!

I've seen that TL114's second piece is always parked on 52nd St. around the corner from their brand new firehouse. :(

I have also noted what was stated by guitarman314...............L 136  has there 2nd piece always parked on Seabury Street off Grand Ave next to the church..............I also saw the 2nd piece of TL 152 parked in the lot next to quarters...........And in guitarmans neighborhood I passed the quarters of E 160 one night when I went to a wake at a funeral home near there quarters..... I saw at least 2 units parked across from there quarters on some type of a lot one of those units was TAC 2.....I am not sure what else is parked there but I know that Guitarman would know

E160/R5/DC8 house has a large fenced-in lot directly across the street where TSU-2, Collapse R-5, Decon-160, R-5-HazMat van and a few more pieces are kept. There are electric reels along the south side for charging batteries on the rigs. There are two sliding gates directly opposite the bay doors so when the apparatus has to go to Narrows Rd. So.(S.I. Expwy service rd.) they just drive straight out and across the lot and out the Narrows Rd. So. side of the lot. In fact, Rescue 5 almost always goes out that way because it's too tight to turn out of quarters. The engine and chief's buggy have no problem turning out.

So I take it that because they keep these pieces outside, especially in the winter, they have to drain the pumps and tanks when the trucks aren't being used?

Nope the companies 2nd pieces must always be ready to be used even in the winter.

Gman do any of the rigs outside of 160/5 carry water on board?
No, the only time that was an issue was when the firehouse floor was redone and E160's rig was parked in the lot during the start of winter.

Sorry that was a misunderstanding, by pieces I meant the reserve engines

Clarifying the question this been going around.  It's the reserve engines are stored outside everyone is assuming that the pumps and tanks have to be drained for the winter.  If this isn't true how are they kept from freezing?  If they aren't filled with water they would take a few minutes to become ready to use.
