In the late afternoon hours and into the evening of Monday, January 8th, 2024, the St. James Fire Department along with mutual aid companies and various agencies operated on the scene of a trench rescue style incident at a home on Piper Lane in the Village of Head of the Harbor. A construction worker fell victim to a soil collapse while installing cesspool rings and became buried several feet down. Despite the best efforts of first responders the worker did not survive.
