Tall Ladder

I was reading another thread that had a listing of units and former units and their locations and I noticed something called Tall Ladder 1 and Tall Ladder 2. Anybody know why they were called Tall Ladders. Thanks.
 
I guess that's it. I just haplened to pick up that designation while going through a list someone posted of the history of every FDNY units locations over the years and I saw a tall ladder 1 and a tall ladder 2 and I was wondering what they were.

When they were converted back to 100' aerials the 144' ladders were sold to Chicago.
 
Looks like this thread was reviewed some years back.

How were high ladders different from regular ones? Pretty good info there.​

 
There were 2 Hi Ladder Mack Magirus Rigs in the FDNY they were assigned to a few Units until the TCUs were established & then they both had their Aerials replaced with 100 Ft Grove Aerials ......one went to TCU*712 in the BX & one to TCU*731 in BKLYN.....the other TCU Truck ..TCU*732 in BKLYN had a new '69 American La France Rear Mount (maroon in color).

High Ladders

Anyone remember the high ladder units put in service for a few years in the 1960s? L 119 had one of the units. I believe there was a second. Built on a Mack, the ladder extended 144 ft. I believe they were unpopular because of the very narrow width of the ladder bed in the top section. Must...
