Fire apparatus were used to test the temporary bridge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0JyOgaBXL8&feature=youtu.be

Quite possibly the stupidest thing ever I have ever seen.  NOT YOUR POST G-MAN - the video

How about the bridge has cars loaded on it from end to end, like every weekend or holiday, and then driving over it.

So - it passed the load test - 1 or 2 FDNY vehicles can drive over the bridge after it is cleared of all vehicles?

How about both lanes, into and out of the island have cars, bumper to bumper, in each lane, and E66, E97, L61, L51 and B20 drive over it in the middle lane or "Fire Lane".

Did an engineer decide that 2 rigs driving over an empty bridge was an appropriate "Load Test"????

What has happened to common sense?....

I agree 100% with you Nap72. Another thing is why would they test the bridge with 3 million dollars worth of brand new apparatus? Why not run a bunch of old junk trucks full of sand.

Nap, in response to your question, be advised that common sense is not common in todays world.
+1Common sense? What in the world is that?

NEW SUBJECT: See on DNA News that the ZADROGA 9-11 BILL extended to 2090 as part of the Budget bill just passed by Congress.  Maybe, just maybe some of our elected US Government still has common sense

This is actually the standard method for testing bridges. The below image illustrates the concept.
