Tony Tricarico, the Captain of Squad 252 has an awesome training program on firehouse.com called trics of the trade. Every month he makes a new training slide show. So far he has done window bars and their removal, downed firefighter removal with tubular webbing, downed firefighter removal with a hoseline and others. it can be accessed by going to firehouse.com and typing "trics of the trade" into the search bar at the top of the page. I suggest it for every firefighter everywhere; when I showed it to my brothers they loved it and we use it as the subject of drills often.

The Techniques you learn or reinforce could save your life or your brother's, Stay Low Be Safe

Here is one simple trick.  When adding a length of hose onto the noz. place a hose strap on the shutoff holding it in the open postion.

Doesn't seem like much, but does help prevent the shut off from getting knocked closed.
