Veterans Day November 11, 2014

Thank you so much, kfd, for expressing that sentiment.

Those of us of a certain age may remember a time when being a veteran was not considered anything much worthwhile, to say the least. Even Veterans Day itself was overlooked.  Back in the 70's and 80's, many employees petitioned their companies to give them the Friday after Thanksgiving off rather than November 11. I considered that a slap in the face.

In my life time,  I have seen the military go from the most despised to the most respected American institution.

But to all my fellow vets, we knew it all along.

To all, my heartfelt....

Thank you for your service to our country.

We have many veterans on this site. Let's ask this question. Where would we be today without them ?

Thank you for what you've done.

Let us all take some time today to remember our Veterans .......past & those still serving around the world....& most importantly those who have Passed To A Higher Level while serving ......take some time to tell a youngster what today REALLY means.

1669 active FDNY members left their units to serve in World War II

(from April 1946 WNYF)

32 FDNY members were Killed in Action.

Never forget.

In appreciation to all Veterans and to FDNY members and to other departments' firefighters who served in the military in Korea, Viet Nam, Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan - and all other locations around the world.

Thank you to all the Veterans who served this country. This entire country owes literally everything we have to you.
