On Tuesday, December 28th at 4:34p, the Massapequa Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire with people trapped on Eastlake Ave. 3rd Assistant Chief Friedland [6303] was quickly on the road and with smoke showing from a distance, started mutual aid companies. Upon his arrival, a Signal 10 (working fire) was transmitted with heavy fire throughout the house. 2 of the 3 occupants in the house were able to safely evacuate on their own but 1 occupant was still trapped inside and in voice contact with police & firefighters outside. Engine 635 and Ladder 632 were first due and both crews made an aggressive push into the basement of the house allowing for the rescue of the last trapped occupant by the crew of Ladder 632. At least 3 landlines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the fire with the assistance of crews from South Farmingdale, North Massapequa, and Wantagh. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the condition of the occupants are unknown as of the time of this post. All operations were under the direction of Chief of Department Batt [6300].
