Ride along Engine 162 in 1962

Good stuff Johnny. I still love the old open rigs and the Mars lights. In the early 1960s I buffed. in Flatbush Brooklyn with E-255 & L-157 and also at times E-309 & L-159. I have vivid memories of E-310's American or Ward LaFrance Quad with a large Flashing light above the windshield that had the word "FIRE" infused into the red glass of the Lense. Rigs back then had "Buckeye Exhaust Whistles' that were activated by a cord through the floor next to the officer. The Buckeye Exhaust Whistles were left over from during WW II, when sirens were discouraged due to confusion with
"Air Raid Sirens". As the Lone Ranger said, "Let us return to the thrilling days of yesteryear" Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
