5/4/26 Manhattan 3rd Alarm Box 1791

421 and 422 is to cover the city. 4E was still at the 4th Alarm. They are to “cover” the citywide while the CWTC is busy. Yes Car 3 responded and so did everyone else but they are coming from Brooklyn. Div 3 was there before any of the staff chiefs from Brooklyn. It’s not telling another Chief of the same rank what to do. It’s helping with the fire just like can other multiple. Div 7 is dealing with multiple patients…
Scientists have yet to find a condition of "Too many supervisors" in the known universe.

In Houston about two weeks ago at O- Dark -Thirty Hours, a young HPD officer arrested an HFD Paramedic for assault at a family disturbance EMS call. This created the HFD response of the EMS Supervisor, the Senior EMS Supervisor, the District Chief, the Deputy Chief Shift Commander, her patrol sergeant, and the night watch Lieutenant at Southwest Command. Luckily, the DA's Office refused to accept charges. I'm just wondering which supervisor got to deliver the royal butt chewing.

All do respect but this is not relevant and FDNY is the FDNY they are the best for a reason. The biggest fire department for a reason. Everyone says “there is so many guys standing around” Because the FDNY has proper manpower and ready relief? Not sure how anyone can compare the FDNY to any department when no one comes close… who cares if there is to many chiefs on scene. That’s probably 100+ years of experience.

Agree with this from the perspective of "if you have it and you may need it, send it" ... but additionally, if you look at all the bases that need to be covered at a major fire (whether from the perspective of ICS or other similar command methods), there actually aren't that many superfluous chiefs. Just to name a few, IC, deputy IC, ops branch, numerous sectors, RUL, ARC, SO, staging, plus occasionally things like victim tracking chiefs, chiefs going to a hospital, interagency responsibilities, there are a lot of roles to be filled. Every Chief on the rundown for this call is assigned for a reason. Does that mean they all get used, no, but that's true of every unit type and every call type
