Question concerning R2‘s 1996 HME/Saulsbury Rig

I know that after 9/11 the Rigs of Rescue 3,4 and 5 got repaired and went into service again.

The rigs of Rescue 1 and Rescue 2 were written off.

I understand that for Rescue 1 since it was buried under the north pedestrian bridge.

But I found photos of Rescue 2‘s Rig still parked in the vicinity of ground zero ( before it was moved to fresh kills on Staten Island )
And besides a smashed windshield and lots of dust it looked fairly ok.

So why was it written off?

I heard rumors that it was damaged beyond repair when they wanted to tow it.
Is that true?

I believe this is very much the case as I was told something similar by site members. The full story, I don't remember very much.
