Many years ago E513? Or 508 i can’t remember the exact number was doing a standby at a movie shoot at the Brooklyn navy yard and they had a job on the movie set

Which movie was it?
 
Years ago, I was a Firefighter in TL-18, and as a trained MPO/ECC, I was hired to drive a reserve Engine to a movie production. The movie was being filmed at the quarters of Ladder 8 on North Moore St. and West Broadway in Manhattans Lower West side. The movie was "Ghost Busters" Myself and about 25 other FDNY members spent almost 13 hours that day alone shooting the scenes from Ghost Busters #1 at Ladder 8's classic firehouse.
Alot of movies are filmed in NYC and in alot of them Reserve FDNY apparatus is used, the movie production company pay the city for the use of the reserve apparatus, and the firemen extras make a good deal of money. If the movies calls for a scene with real fire, then fully staffed apparatus is paid for by the movie production company to ensure safety and there again often reserve apparatus is used and also fire apparatus owned by private contractors that are marked similar to FDNY apparatus. The reserve rigs at San Gernaro would be used they deploy the feast kit

4th of July west side they have reserve engine on standpipe of piers.

UN they have reserve engine on standpipe also

True reserve apparatus is not normally used with the main apparatus on big calls. But on 9/11/01 reserve apparatus was used by additional FDNY members to respond to the World Trade Center "Ground Zero" I have seen numerous photographs and videos of FDNY members responding to the general recall for the 9/11/01 WTC Attack, on reserve Engine and Truck Company rigs. I also believe that reserve apparatus was used in situations of "civil unrest" as part of FDNY "Emergency Command Procedures" Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

a lot of the movies/tv shows i see using "FDNY" Apparatus often use Metropolitan Fire Association's old Mack engine and/or TL. Third Watch for its first couple of seasons used reserve Seagraves, then used a couple of E-One's and a Ferrara primarily in their later seasons. Rescue Me used an old E-One and Mack too, I believe. Law & Order was the only one to regularly use FDNY reserves. I remember spotting the old 2002 TL85(wow did that rig have problems) being used in one episode. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry used a lot of FDNY reserves(even if they did have the guys riding on the sidestep without a helmet), and Die Hard With A Vengeance used actual FDNY rigs, including I believe L5 before they had a tiller and E47. Wow do I need a life....

That is exactly how there reserved apparatus system is intended to be use , just on 9-11 on a much bigger scale . As off duty members reported from home for the recall to their fire house , they assembled 5 FF and an officer and went in service as example say E - 501 . They can then be assigned as to the needs of the department. They will operate independently from the normal engine that it is house with. Generally one has nothing to do for the other. But the company that the reserved apparatus is housed with is responsible for maintaining and inspection said reserve rig ….and that company usually has first dips on manning it ( usually on OT ) when it is put in service.

I don't know where each reserve is kept but if E501 was stored at E33 would they go in service as E501 acting E33 or are they completely independent once they go in service?
