Is there a reason the Squads are kept to the 1000gpm pump these days when the rest of the fleet is going to 2000gpm? Smaller pump = more internal room for specialized tools?
Delta flight 136 (Detroit-Amsterdam) apparently diverted yesterday to JFK after a number of passengers got sick onboard. 12 passengers were treated by EMS on arrival.

I suppose this is also obligatory:
It wasn't just the clothing, though that and lack of knowledge on how to swim had a major part to play in the death toll. The owners of the Gen'l Slocum had cork life jackets that had degraded to the point that with any handling the canvas layer fell apart. The contents rather than being actual...
The event you are thinking of was the aftermath of the Alva Cape/Texaco Massachusetts collision. The Alva Cape was anchored in Gravesend Bay lightering off the remaining Naptha cargo when sparks caused a massive explosion and fire. The fireboat Alfred Smith was alongside at the time and was...
Very impressive video, one I've never seen before.
I've always found this pic to be the most stark representation of just what the FDNY marine fleet was up against that night, and for a good portion of the early response it was Fire Fighter under the command of Lt. McKenna who faced it alone...

Wow what a mess. Hopefully the MFD members stay safe, sure sounds like a suspicious situation all around between the rapid spread and the shooting victim. Per the livestream they are now using foam as well and I overheard they are drafting from the Miami River

Very impressive stuff, I spent way too much of my workday looking thru all the units and comparing notes and I think you're pretty spot on especially considering how different the streetscape is down there these days versus 2001. The only 3 I didn't see were L118 and E26 that were parked side by...
With Fleet Week underway in midtown Manhattan and in Staten Island, are there any FDNY units special detailed to these locations for additional coverage or is it more or less business as usual?
These days? Sunny Buffalo on NY's west coast. Prior to 2010, born and raised in Southern Westchester to a Theriot Ave Father and a fine lady from Bayside. Lived in Manhattan 6 years on W106th and spent 2 years working in Port Elizabeth as a 24/7 port agent for several shipping lines.
