4/21/25 Bronx All Hands Box 3228

As you say Ed, before the infusion of L's 56 and 58 (at their present and prior locations) and BARB, L38 responded first or second due with the most number of engine companies in the Bronx. Twelve, count 'em (clockwise from north on the compass)... 62, 97, 61, 90, 45, 82, 46, 42, 75, 48, 79 and...

L38 famous for being fast out the door. Before E45 had a truck company L38 would beat L31 first due to box 2914, Boston road at Southern boulevard.

US Senate Committee investigating Fire Apparatus Manufacturers

I don't know if this is absolutely true but I heard it from a very reliable source some years ago who was connected to the Fleet Service Division. One of the main reasons Mack stopped manufacturing fire engines had to do with the contract they had with New York City. The apparatus warranties...

4/9/25 Bronx All Hands Box 2353

Age-old question... Does the relocator (in this case E88) get credit for the run and the 10-75 or E71?

    VINTAGE FDNY RIG PHOTOS.

I believe this is the 1953 model as the headlights are embedded in the front fenders. '51 and 52s had them raised up off the chassis. 91-2 ran with one of these before they got their Big Bertha Mack.

Thank you Chief. I know a Mike P who served in 91-2 at the time, thought it might be him. If I remember correctly 91-1 had a Mack C model from the early '60s.

    VINTAGE FDNY RIG PHOTOS.

L51 had a 1955 FWD wooden aerial ladder rig also, so it's probably that company instead of L32. In those days L's 50, 47, and 51 out to City Island before 32, which would have made them a fourth or fifth alarm truck. But you are correct, it could have been 32.

Rescue Company 3 Activities 75 Years Ago

LT John J Kelly (7) was later Chief of Battalion 14 throughout the War Years. Appointed in 1935. An old school officer with a deep booming voice, nicknamed "All Hands Kelly". Retired in 1970 on full pay (a quirk in the law) after 35 years OTJ. Helped organize Rescue 5 on Staten Island, Captain...
