    Ladder 145

I just read on D.O. #39 that a retired member, FF Thomas George passed away from L 145. I don't remember that Co., but he retired in 73 so maybe that Co. was disbanded when 2nd sections got the axe.

NEW YORK CITY COUNCIL PROPOSE E-BIKE CHARGING STATIONS AT FIRE, POLICE STATIONS

I can just see the theft of batteries on the rise. Common sense is the big problem here. Leaving batteries at a Firehouse, and Co. catches a job for several hours and now battery and firehouse gone. Who comes up with these insane ideas? Put a timer on the charger so it doesn't cook the battery...

    3/5/23 Bronx 5th Alarm Box 4794

In the blackout in July of 1977 a 10th Alarm was transmitted for Knickerbocker & Bleeker. Although route cards only went to a 5th, Guess the computer was able to dig deep and get a 10th alarm out there.

Usually the oven would contain the fire, unless some genus opens the door to the oven and runs out of the kitchen. Thanksgiving turkeys are usually the result of oven fires.

Now that sounds like a good old food on the stove extending to the cabinets above. I guess the bacon was over done.

Another oven fire. In my 24 years responding as a FF we only had food on the stove. Now its food in the oven.

I guess it's not food on the stove, but food in the stove. No signal for that yet.

We responded to that box when we had the American LaFrance rig and taking up we got another box in Brownsville. So we start heading down Miller Ave., which is almost 90* down hill, and the aerial came out about 3 feet when it was bedded. The later rigs, Seagraves, had a ladder lock to prevent...

Thompson PA new rig February 2023

My Dad had a place up there, 90 acres or so, and the town was about 2 blocks long. That was back in the mid 60's to mid 70's. A lot of farm land and neighbors were pretty far apart. The problem back then was travelling up there was the traffic. From Queens to there was about 150 miles and...

    GLORY DAYS VIGNETTES

Maybe you weren't aware that Homer Bishop also had a hand in that outrageous crime committed that night. Another fly in the ointment was there was somebody stealing TV's from the housewatch area when you got a run around that time. It seems they, the thief, had a 1620 key, so after losing our TV...

Most unusual call you ever responded to?

During the gas crisis back in the mid 70's , we got a run for an order of smoke. We checked the building thoroughly for any fire or where the smoke condition was coming from. It was actually coming from the adjacent building because they were using wood in their oil burner to warm up the house...

Portraits of the Bravest at the 10-76 in Manhattan on Dec 27, 2022. Box 0673.

What a lot of people didn't realize that we were 4 blocks from 120 & 4 blocks from 123 before their move to St. John's Pl.. A lot of our work was in the vacant tenements all over Brownsville. We realized that if we were now 1st due, we were on the fire floor not the floor above. So that was our...

Portraits of the Bravest at the 10-76 in Manhattan on Dec 27, 2022. Box 0673.

Here's a picture of what a typical night in the Ghetto (can we say that anymore),and what Brownsville subjected the Firefighters to. That's a vacant on St. Johns and Buffalo about 3 AM. There was a major fire either in downtown Bklyn. or Manhattan and all the local engines were relocated. The...
