    Boro Call / Largest Response

Engine 97 was established in 1931. In 1957, Engine 72 was moved from Downtown to become the second section of Engine 41. Engine 66 was still a fire boat. I am unaware of Bronx ever supplying engines on a boro call. Into the War Years, the Bronx CO frequently had problems providing engine...

    Boro Call / Largest Response

Thanks for the above information Ig. All I can say is strange...curious....interesting. It certainly raises questions. All within six months in 1968? At that time the "War Years" was just getting underway and everybody was still "running off the bells". On 1/11/68, temperature was below...

    Houston,TX Warehouse Fire 12/24/2025

Crazy morning in northeast Houston. Since this job at 0256 hours, HFD has had two other working building fires and a fatal auto- bicycle accident in the same area. None of them were in 19's still alarm district. Those cedar choppers from East Texas aren't accustomed to that much excitement.

Out of curiosity; did the weight of responding firefighters exceed the weight of the one story mobile home? I've seen videos of Amish carrying a barn........but still......

    Houston Apartment Fire 12/19/25

This apartment is about 400-600 feet up Braesridge Drive from Engine 82's quarters. Obviously they had heavy fire on arrival. It's funny; when you go up Braesridge to the north, it is a nice quiet neighborhood. When going south about 1000 feet to West Bellfort Avenue. it immediately becomes the...

A Mexican Navy aircraft crashed on approach into Galveston Scholes Airport a couple of hours ago in the fog. This crash was in West Bay adjacent to the Gulf Freeway. Galveston Sheriff's and Galveston FD had rescuers in 4-5 feet of water. Eight people were on board. There are four confirmed...

Commissioner Tucker NYP editorial on FDNY EMS problems

Fire department run EMS systems have a 100 year history and are now the gold standard. Getting this done in a city is no longer an arcane science. Is the AAOS published Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured (the Orange Book) still used to train EMTs?

    Boro Call / Largest Response

In a previous post, I noted that Manhattan CO liked to use Box 174- Canal Street at the Manhattan Bridge for Boro Call requests into Brooklyn. Prior to that Box 97- Park Row and Frankfort Street near the Brooklyn Bridge was used for a Boro Call into Coney Island in 1932. 1967 was an...

Yesterday was Dick Van Dyke's 100th birthday. Of more interest, it was John Davidson's Birthday also. On May 28, 1977 Davidson , a well known entertainer, actor, and TV personality was the headliner at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate, Kentucky. He was just about to go onstage when a...

    Vietnam MIA's...Dialing For Dollars

As always, the troops are trapped in geopolitical imperatives over which they have no control. The National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia observe that the U.S. has done trade deals, favorable tariffs, and military understandings with Vietnam. Vietnam...

    Vietnam MIA's...Dialing For Dollars

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency estimates there are more than 1500 MIA's from the Vietnam War. Since 2016 that agency has spent $86 million, but resolved only 25 cases. Vietnam used to be a French colony so the country has a well developed bureaucracy skilled in producing paperwork. The...

    The Ventures/Days of Doo Wop

Long before the Blues Brothers Band, I heard Sam and Dave and their Twelve Piece Soul Band do "Soul Man" in 1970 at the Fillmore East on Second Avenue and East 6th Street. Although I had no idea who Steve Cropper was, I must have heard Sam and Dave yell "Play it Steve!" through the marijuana...
