also, I've talked to chiefs who work on the island. with the satellite incoming that's another engine they can utilize. for instance on an all hands you get 4 engines, ask for extra engine you have 5, add the satellite you now have 6 engines on the first alarm. helps them have resources...
The satellites have nothing to do with hydrant pressure. The vehicle itself has no pumps. It's a giant hose wagon that can help when there are limited hydrants in the area which is the case in many portions of Staten Island
Also, hydrant pressure has nothing to do with volume. I've seen...
in the late 80s early 90s that area had a whole bunch of vacant fires in houses that are now where the wendys shopping center is. now they are developing along amboy there, i think this is the 3rd job on that stretch in the last 2 years
All fdny engines are currently high pressure pumpers technically. Most dont have the fittings or red hose for that operation. 3rd stage is a complete different story.
Pressure isn't usually the issue here. It's volume of water available. If you are relaying a long way you cant go over...
No way. On the map they are certainly closer as the crow flies but 24/5 have 6th Ave. 4 lanes of traffic straight up. The avenues make a big difference in Manhattan
14th and 6th assignment has changed through the years
sq18 is very close but then after them depending on traffic 24/5 can shoot up 6th ave and beat 3&12 and E 14 in
E5 used to be extra engine there then got moved to 4th due but it can take forever to get across 14st
FSD rigs are usually exchanged when a rig will be out of service for a short time (a day or two) It comes with a packed hosebed and alot of other items regular spares dont carry. Makes it easier than stripping a rig completely for only a short time
nothing like climbing the aerial first due roof with everything, and then 2nd due roof just loads his stuff on the TL and gets brought up there like a gentleman lol
