I grew up in Glendale at 76 St & 78 ave and spent much of my youth hanging out at Juniper Valley Park. Moved out at 16 years old in 1986 and then went back in the early 90's and worked as a paramedic at SJQH. Used to sit at Juniper Valley Park again working on 44A.
Thanks for your response. I worked many years as a medic for one of the voluntary hospitals in NYC and I have always been a fire buff. I've been out of NYC for over 20 years. I see the rescue medics in pictures on many assignments and knew they worked closely with units on fires. The creation of...
That an interesting note about L19. They would have still been on E166 St at that time which is probably as tight if not tighter as Belmont Ave. I often look at that old firehouse on E166 St on Google and imagine the insanity on that tight block during shift change with E50, E50-2, L19 and Div 6...
Thank god this worked out as well it did and the fireman will recover.
This is NOT a knock on anyone, but did the rescue medics treat him with cyanokit? Did they do something a normal line medic unit couldn't?
111 still seems to catch a good amount of work even though the neighborhood has changed so much. 124 seems to go weeks without work though. Maybe because some of 111 second and third due areas are still rough and 124 is surrounded by gentrified areas.
I'm not very familiar with the area around 240 but it seems like they have a tough time getting out of the area between the cemetery and the park especially going south.
It requires a good amount of continuing education to maintain a paramedic certification. I assume FDNY will pay for members to attend this training if they are mandating people to keep their cert. I can't imagine FDNY would pay for all of this training just so members can obtain RMA's.
Scott Muni is a name I had forgotten about. I listened to him everyday on WNEW until he went over to 104.3 and listened a few more years on there until I stopped working in NYC.
