Careful there, Sig... Tom Eve's (G-Man) Rule specified that when companies were oos for some administrative reason (medicals, training at the Rock, not another job) there would likely be a serious serious incident in their first due area. But thanks for the consistent rundowns you provide.

Q: What is the "G-Man Theory or *G-Man*
A: The "G-Man Theory", postulated many moons ago by long-time member (and mean ax-man) Tom Eve (guitarman314). For every 10-75 or greater job, the one thing that is most probable is that one or more 1st due or 1st alarm unit(s) is not available for one reason or another." A corollary to this theory is that if a given unit is out of service for training, Medicals, PM, etc. there will be a big job.

Thought another run or relocated would be considered the "ETC" part

If you notice on this Queens job the G-Man comment was made due to alot of relocators catching the job due to the normally assigned companies being at another job.

I was not looking for a pissing contest here.

Tom Eves (guitarman314) and I were good friends in the Fire Bell Club going back over two decades. Tom's original observation was simple: it seemed that when a company was OUT OF SERVICE for an ADMINISTRATIVE reason it was likely to miss a good first due job in their district. That was it.

Units at another job or a relocation were not out of service and so not included. It only applied to first due, not first alarm companies.

As this Forum matured and the rundowns became more accurate we noticed that Tom's observation seemed more than coincidence and so it was dubbed "the G-Man Rule" .

There must be a lot of politicians on this forum as that simple rule has exploded into a postulate, corollary, regulation, and probably a New York City law by now. That's not what was intended.

If this Forum now considers whatever, say that if a company responds one man shy that is now the G-Man rule, so be it. Matters not to me or in the grand scheme of things and I will support the Forum judgment.

I wish Tom still participated and he could set the record straight. And I might be mistaken. I have been so before (just ask my ex-wife.)

If you do still monitor this Forum Tom, all the best to you my friend.

Peace brothers and thanks for making NYCFire.net such an interesting place.

Wasn’t looking for a “pissing contest either” (ask my wife about this one too) Nor do I do politics so not sure where the politicians comment refers too.

Just stating where in the FAQ section (which the Q & A was made by the late great Catry) it is and how it states ETC which could pertain to a company being at a job. Hence the comment made in the other post wasn’t sure if the policy changed (they always change)

Don’t forget I’ve been here for awhile (maybe not as long as you but pretty close) and am aware of the legendary ax player by R5.

I enjoy looking forward to your post about the history of the Bronx especially Belmont Ave

Be Safe
