The Stonington Borough FD was dispatched to a structure fire on Lindberg Road; the call was made by a neighbor a block away who saw heavy smoke from the home. This call occurred after the Stonington area experienced heavy flooding from surge from a major storm. The roadway was flooded and the first arriving chief requested incoming units to come in with extinguishers. Due to the water condition, firefighters had to walk on Amtrak tracks to access the house. This necessitated halting all trains on the main line between Washington and Boston. After a delay, units were able to drive through the water. The house was flooded and the water started a fire in the basement electrical panel. Mutual aid was requested from Quiambaug FD, Wequetequock FD, and Pawcatuck FD. Also responding was Stonington Ambulance, Stonington PD, and Amtrak Police. Pawcatuck FD brought a boat to the scene in case it was needed to access the site. No injuries were reported.
