RE: SLOW RESPONSE TIMES ON S.I. SOUTH SHORE: http://www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2016/02/si_fire_and_engine_companies_l.html#incart_most-commented_northshore_article

Regarding that pot stirring article on S.I. response times, did any of the geniuses that researched the info realize that Distance=Time or something of that nature. The community yelled and clamored for a new engine company to be established in Rossville due a multi-alarm job that the first due engine and truck had to pack their lunch to get to. Now, it's said that 168 is the 4th inactive. What do they want. Perhaps 151 and 168 are not that active is due to their getting the message to the community about fire safety and prevention. Sorry if I rambled, it just makes me boil to read that garbage.

Memory Master, I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw that the data researchers didn't account for miles of land to be covered by companies in SI, with special concentration to the south shore. First due E164/L084 have a trip and a half from Huguenot to Rossville, where E168 is now quartered. No matter how fast a rig responding on a run is - and I've expirenced first hand just how these rigs haul ass -it is going to take time to get to the box when companies are scarce. Look at the map included in the article that is color coated with the fastest and slowest response times. Notice how the "fastest" are in very urban areas where firehouses are located within blocks of eachother almost. Now compare that to the 3,4,5 miles+ between E151/T076 in Tottenville and E167/T087 in annadale. Even further for E162/L082/BC23 to get to real south shore boxes.

And regarding E168, E151 being among the slowest in the city, 2 things: look at the SES of the area they cover opposed to other "busier companies" and ironically enough, these companies (151/76, 168, 164/84) all were on the *intial* ticket for the 3rd alarm a few days ago. They also saw a job the next morning. Add those 2 to the data books for this year so far.
