Some beautiful old apartment buildings surround Crotona Park, especially on the north , east and south. Built back in the 20's or earlier, when a park view was considered the ultimate and that neighborhood was considered  "top shelf". Most survived the War Years and looked to being rehabilitated recently. Hope this is not a trend.

3511 - I agree - you can not beat the elegance of the pre war (WWII) buildings - things became cookie cutter after that for ease of construction and cost reduction.

Best example of this is 500 So. Blvd. that burned numerous times, was renovated and is standing fully occupied today. ;)

If you click on the human figure in the corner of kdf's map link you can navigate around Crotona Park and see the buildings from the front at street level. It looks amazingly like it did back in the 1950's before the welfare laws and rent control nearly destroyed the Bronx.
