Bit of a sad note from my home city.

Yesterday Afternoon 3 Men disguised as Irish Police Swat members and carrying AK-47's stormed a Hotel in Dublin Killing 1 and injuring 2 others (1 may loose a leg). They attacked a Boxing Weigh-in being hosted in the Hotel in an attack linked to ongoing Gang Feuds

2 Other Men (1 dressed as a woman) brandishing handguns where seen running from the Hotel after the Attack. It is thought the acted as lookouts inside the Hotel before the attack

Dublin Fire Brigade Responded with 2 Engines, 2 Ambulances, 1 Advanced Paramedic & 1 Chief

Dec, my condolences to the family and friends of this attack. To the two survivors I wish them all a full recovery. However the loss of a leg for an innocent victim will never be a full recovery.

Our society has gone completely crazy. Whether it is in Ireland or the USA. No place is safe anymore.

Which Hotel Dec? Manhattan, The garda I have seen there had HK's. definitely not AK country

Rev, I read it was the Regency Hotel.

Regardless of whether it was out of country terrorist's or in an in country gang hit the responding FD Members are in the mix....stay alert.

Will D i should have stated that the man killed is no loss to society. A history of having people killed and drugs are attached to him. The 2 injured wouldn't be Church Goers either. Thankfully it seems no innocent people where injured

Manhattan No the Gardai don't use AK's. Like All SWAT teams they carry an array of Weapons but most common for an Operation is Heckler & Koch MP7's

Rev as has been stated it was the Regency Hotel (no where near where you stayed, you were very upmarket lol)

Chief you are correct. As im sure ive told most of you the Dublin Fire Brigade are Dublin Citys Paramedics and when a Major EMS incident happens ie Cardiac Arrest, Shooting, event with Multi Injuries Fire Engines are turned out

I havnt seen any talk about the worry for Firefighters / Paramedics Responding to this incident. Lots of talk about our police officers as first responding officers where unarmed (Our Police Officers are unarmed). Unlike NYC or Many High Profile European cities you could be looking at 15-20mins before you have Heavily Armed Police on scene here

After talking to a friend in Fire Dispatch All crews where told to 'Hold Off & Use discretion' when heading in. Phone Calls into Dispatch & 1st Due Police confirmed Shooters had left so they continued in with Caution

Also the getaway van was reported on fire a close distance away before 1st due units arrived at hotel usually another tell tail sign shooters are gone

Tonight Monday 8th a man in his 50's was gunned down in his Flat in the North Strand Area of Dublin (Not far from the Hotel where Fridays attack took place). The man killed was a relation of a well known Dublin Criminal and is a retaliation for Fridays attack

Over the past 2 days we've been hearing and seeing a more high profile policing and more armed patrols. Tonight's Murder is very embarrassing for the Police forces Top Brass and the Irish Government

Dec, you make a very good point in your reply # 8, regarding the worry of any firefighters or paramedics responding.

Here in the U.S. in 1999 when there was a mass shooting attack at the Columbine High School, in addition to the shootings that killed 12 students and 1 teacher, the attack involved a fire bomb to divert firefighters. There were propane tanks converted to bombs and devices rigged in cars parked outside. There were a total of 99 such devices found.
