In addition to the points Chief Jonas makes, it is interesting to note the timeline for additional alarms which was probably not uncommon in that era (1961):
2040 hrs - Box 786 transmitted
2100 hrs - 2nd alarm 20 minutes later
2240 hrs - 3rd alarm 1 hr 40 minutes later
2307 hrs - 4th alarm 27 minutes later
2334 hrs - 5th alarm 27 minutes later
3 engines, 2 trucks, 1 rescue and 2 chiefs were initially assigned to this 25 story high rise fire.
