Speaking of first due, consider this:

Response of Engine Company 20, 1320 W. Concord Place (noted to have a small still district in an industrial area)

July 9, 1944 @ 1845 hrs. Still, then Box 465 plus 5-11 plus 3 Specials 1737 N. Bosworth Ave in a furniture factory

Sept. 3, 1944 @ 0440 hrs. Box 395, then 5-11, 1600 N. Elston Ave. in a coal yard

Sept. 4, 1944 @ 0408 hrs. Still, then Box 395 plus 5-11, 1656 N. Besley Ct. in a factory

Dec, 21, 1944 @ 0309 hrs. Still, then Box 394 plus 5-11 plus 2 Specials, 1642 N. Besley Ct. in a factory

April 11, 1945 @ 1249 hrs. Box 464 plus 5-11, 1800 N. Ashland Ave. in a lumbar yard

During the War...sabotage?
Engine 20 protected the factories that were along the Chicago River. On January 1 1992 company was placed OOS due to manpower cutbacks. Most of that area is now resedential.

Back then, having only two shifts, those guys at Engine 20 were probably thinking "Hey, this looks like a nice quiet place to work".
