3/12/2014 10-60 5th Alarm Manhattan Box 1406

I'm sure that is the reason for the quick response time....They heard it and went to investigate, and the calls were probably flooding into the 911 system.....Not that I'm putting any negative light on it....FDNY always rises to the top

1529 - Progress Report - 2 hand lines in operation, selective debris removal, DEP shoring up the sidewalk following a water main break, plans are being formulated.  PWH - Duration 5 hours 58 minutes.

It'll be interesting to hear the whole story after the investigation.  Those two Old Law tenements seem to be in decent shape, at least in those Google Street View photos.  There are thousands of 19th/20th century buildings that don't have a facade that's in the physical condition that those appear to be in.

Prayers for those killed & injured .... weather forecast stating rain tonight & 30 degree drop in temperature by morning (ice)....high winds also expected ...a long night ahead for the BROTHERS.

Absolutely, 68jk09.  Requiescat in Pace, and our thoughts and prayers to all the people affected by this tragedy.

That same storm is here in Buffalo and across western New York; we are having Blizzard conditions, with heavy snow and winds up to 40 mph creating wind chills close to zero degrees.  Hopefully the storm stays north of the city so that the FDNY brothers don't have to fight through these conditions, too.

Don't be surprised if you see Engine 165 heading up that way also. Hazmat Tech Unit, I saw them in the Bronx for the train derailment in December.

There was an interview with a witness in the area on CNN who said that those two buildings are actually only 2-3 years old, the lot was vacant prior to that....Take it for what you will, as people say anything on TV, but does make it interesting...
