I Heard Res.2 Go Down Mechanical late last night ( actually Early A.M. ...)

Today I hear Res.5 covering a lot of BKLYN Runs, ( E.34 & Kings Hwy.,  E.17 & Courtelyou ...)

Is Res.2 Down ?

  ** Res.2 10-8 from a Run @ 17:02 **

Since they have several Reserve Rescues I would assume if one of the frontline units went 00S it could be replaced with one of the reserves quite rapidly.

I've been retired from the job since 2002 so I don't know what the current practice is, but Rescue Companies (as well as most companies other than Haz Mat 1) used to be placed out of service for the 9x6 tour for medicals. The rig would be picked up and transported to PMP for routine service and the members would report directly to the medical office.

Rescue was in and out of service mechanical all morning.  Wasnt a big deal.
69 the rescues, deputy's hazmat and I believe the boats get men on OT during Medicals/education day. If the rig needs to be PM'ed they get a spare for the day.

If its like you said ,mechanical issues,  OOS only for a few hours they would use R-6 , a fully (well mostly) loaded reserve rig. All the Company would have to do is swap over its own SCBA's , radios and SCUBA equipment and go back in service . If the shop can't fix the issue then the Company has to change over to a spare rig. Thats when they have to move all the equipment from their front line rig to the spare rig , this alone could take 4 hours or so .

Thanks 488. As I mentioned, I've been retired for quite a few years, when I was on the job we would be placed OOS for the entire 9x6 tour for medicals and the rig would be picked up and transported to PMP. I guess that has changed, I certainly agree with keeping companies in service at all times.
