I want to say they transport the Rehab Rig (Like a RAC)

Years ago on a working fire T1 in New Haven use to take theirs then down the road it was the 1st due on the 2nd Alarm Engine

Now its the DC's aide takes it on the working fire

I could be wrong Pat would give you a 100% better answer. I'm sure he was 10-84 at this job

It looks like E*7 is the primary rehab unit from the run downs I see, do they catch a lot in that capacity?

The concern was that if the Rehab was always operated by the Engine where it was quartered, that Engine would wind up assigned to every fire citywide, all the time. So, the assignment was given to the 5th due Engine (after the 3 initial Engines and one for RIT).
While the Rehab was quartered at E11, it was somewhat centrally located so the 5th due might come from any part of the city without traveling across the length of the city. Once the Rehab was relocated to the northeast corner of the city, the 5th due may be closer to the fire than to the Rehab, so being assigned to bring the Rehab pulls it away from the fire and away from being 1st due on the 2nd alarm.
Also, with only 11 Engines, the centrally located ones tend to be 4th due or before, thus they will rarely be 5th due, having been sent to the fire earlier.

A little more on the rehab unit. It is in Engine 7's quarters. During business hours someone from training will go pick it up and take it to the fire. On the transmission of the W/F the 5th due engine gets the rehab except for above times. Lately if the 5th due has a long ride to get it the Deputy (Car 6) will assign Engine 7 to bring it (if available) and will have the 5th due go to the fire. I've seen where Engine 7 just drops it off and returns to quarters and I've seen where they stay on scene with it.
