On Marc 26, 2014 Boston Box 1579, Beacon and Exeter, was transmitted for a building fire at 298 Beacon Street. Engine 33 and Ladder 15 were first on the scene and reported a fire in the basement at 2:42. A second alarm was transmitted at 2:48 by the Chief of District 4. At 2:50 a "May-Day" was transmitted by Engine 33. By 3:13 nine alarms had been transmitted. Sadly Lt Edward Walsh of Engine 33 and FF Michael Kennedy of Ladder 15 were trapped in the basement by a flash-over which cut their hose line and prevented their rescue. Both men had answered their last alarm.
