Battalion 35 has a car into the rear of a tractor trailer - person pinned in car

Hurst tool is in operation, NYPD ESU requested

Victim is extricated, canceling ESU

Engine 206 & Tower Ladder 146 First Due

I'm not sure why ESU was requested. The smaller ESU rig is requested for the upsiding of the overturned vehicle - when theres an overturn. In this case there was no overturn so I'm assuming they requested the big ESU rig upon the confirmation of the pin. Might of been cancelled with a downgrade or when the victim was excricated by FD. I don't know much about PD operations, this is just a guess.

2 victims extricated, 1 in serious condition transported to Elmhurst. The other (driver) is in custody for DWI. Maybe the ESU has something to do with this. NYPD CIS also investigating.

I have no info on this particular incident or why the request was made but as far as the general "ESU for the upright"  in NYC most times is an unnecessary mission for them... FDNY Units already on the scene are more than capable of doing the job .

That's exactly what I was thinking, FDNY units certainly have a lot more capability and training for this type of work than the ESU units do.  I'm assuming the ESU units were just dispatched by the PD in parallel to FDNY and were canceled because FDNY beat them to the scene and took care of everything.

Trying to clarify , it was FD on the scene requesting NYPD ESU???  Was Rescue assigned ?? There is nothing that ESU has that the rescues don't ,  guaranteed  they have even more specialized equipment !! Would love to know the reason for the request?
Rescue is more then cab able of righting a over turned auto just like ESU loves to do , they just don't want or need to be involved
in something like that if there is no life hazard involeved . Tow companies do a good job of it too!!
