Most Churches don't use lit candles anymore for that reason. The offertory candles had become electric, eliminating a potential source for an accidental fire. In the mid 90's as a Fire Marshal I had a Church fire as a result of lit candles starting wood moulding on fire and extending to the building. The Church was in Ozone Park off Rockaway Blvd. and Crossbay Blvd.

"Sunday afternoon, #FDNY units responded to a report of a fire at Our Lady of the Rosary Pompeii on Seigel Street in Brooklyn.
�“While Easter services were being conducted, parishioners smelled smoke and immediately evacuated. There were about 150 parishioners inside. We responded to the adjoining building of the church,” said First Deputy Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer. “The fire was intense and quickly escalated to five-alarms.”
“First due units used an aggressive interior attack to start to knock down as much fire as they could. That included not only a hose line attack, but a primary search for any victims. Due to the extent of the fire, we had to transition to an exterior attack,” said Assistant Chief Thomas Currao.
“One of our firefighters fell from the second floor through to the first floor while they were fighting the fire. Other firefighters gave a mayday, and not realizing the mayday was for him, he bounced up off the floor and wanted to run back up the stairs to address the mayday. He was uninjured and able to continue to fight the fire. This just shows the bravery of all our members as they’re out here trying to save lives,” said Assistant Chief Michael Meyers.
“This incident produced a patient count of six. I’m happy to report they are all non-life-threatening injuries that range from minor burns to musculoskeletal injuries,” said Deputy Assistant Chief Joseph Pataky. �
The fire was placed under control at 5:18 pm. The cause is under investigation by FDNY Fire Marshals."

the hipsters...a peace and love members of society who believe in wokeism and 'dei'... yet they moved into the neighborhoods of williamsburg , bushwick and bed-stuy willing to pay higher rents which in turn chased out the locals who have/had roots in these communities.
anyone who actually worked in these areas before the hipsters moved in...you would see on a sunday morning well dressed locals some with bible in hand walking to their local church.
sadly , another form of hypocracy which spreads like a cancer.
