There are no truck companies on SI West Shore - single engines and squad - E 158, E 168, Sq 8 - long runs for trucks

Long run for a lot of companies. 154 err I mean S8 is there for a bit alone. Would think 168 jumps the west shore and has an easier time getting in over 163 to this box. 163 has a harder drive fighting the traffic on victory and all the traffic lights.

Fire burns deck and back of home in Travis​

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A fire damaged the deck and back of a home in Travis on Thursday morning.

The fire was reported at 8:05 a.m. at 13 Watson Ave. near Shelley Avenue, according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.

Units on scene determined that the fire was located on a deck in the rear of that home, the spokesman said.

At least 60 firefighters and 12 units responded to the “all-hands” blaze.

The fire was placed under control in less than an hour, at 8:53 a.m., with no injuries reported, the FDNY spokesman said.

That is normally what 168 would do. However, at that time of the morning it's a roll of the dice on how the traffic is on the West Shore. It's a long stretch between Arthur Kill Rd. and Victory Blvd.
