In 1955, the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Yankees to win the World Series. At the time Ebbets Field was small and falling down.

The Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley had to make a move. He offered the City to buy and build a new stadium at Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues himself. To practically and legally make that happen, he needed to do that under the authority of the Public Housing Act of 1949. This, in turn, required the approval of the head of the New York City Housing Authority- Robert Moses. Moses told O'Malley to take a hike. So he did.

The Dodgers are still the World Series Champions: only this time in Chavez Ravine.

Can you imagine what the old neighborhood would look like now- a few blocks away?
