On Monday, April 4th,2016 at 11am, the Department will commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Third Avenue Collapse, at which six members of the Department made the Supreme Sacrifice on April 4th, 1956. The ceremony will take place at the location of the fire, 4085 Third Avenue, Bronx, NY. All off-duty members and their families are invited to attend. Ed Carroll of E48 was preceded in death by his father, John Carroll, a member of L48, who died in the line of duty in 1935 from a fire on Charlotte St. Almost 21 years to the day....can't begin to imagine how his mother must have felt when the Chaplin and BC showed up at her door a second time..UNQUOTE.
