No problem. Glad to pass on any info I have. Working today and went to this, and didn't know about the cops in the elevator at first and was wondering why there were so many cops there.

Just read from the Post that the two officers were assigned to the housing complex - were on their way up to check out a reported smoke condition and while on their way up there the elevator stopped and filled with smoke. That's there the FFs found them unconscious. Hope for a speedy recovery. Police commissioner Bratton is being flown from the Hamptons to the hospital to meet Mayor DeBlasio as well. Apparently it was a mattress fire in the hallway that got out of hand.

Prayers for the injured law enforcement personnel. I hope they both make a speedy recovery. I never agreed with it when I was on the job and all these years later I still don't agree with dispatching law enforcement personnel to reports of smoke, fire, gas odors and CO. for any purpose other than to provide traffic and crowd control. So many law enforcement personnel have needlessly been injured and killed over the years while attempting to assist people at these types of incidents. When Firefighters are dispatched to stand by at a hostage scene or bomb threat we do just that ... stage in a safe area and take no other action unless directed to do so. The police commissioner needs to enact a policy that prevents his personnel from being placed in harms way at these types of incidents so as to avoid future tragedies.

Guys, please hold off on criticism and analysis until a later, more appropriate time. The officer is in real bad shape.

Engine 253 couldn't respond. Due do their apparatus door wouldn't close.  Engine 243 responded. Battalion 33 was there also.  Battalion 57 responded to Coney Island Hospital.
This was one of the worst fires I ever buffed. Watching CPR being done on a cop is horrible. I want to say the guys did A OUTSTANDING job on rescuing the 2 cops and giving them such great care until EMS took over the transport. I pray for a speedy recovery for both Police Officers. Again, great great job to everyone operating.
