Reading the report above ...." Fire in the basement & cockloft" one would first think of Balloon Construction however looking at the street view , bldgs of this type not Balloon do contain an unimpeded pipe chase extending from the basement to the roof carrying piping to & from the bathrooms .....( the pipe chase is usually next to or in the heating unit area or room & running up ).......whether this type bldg or balloon frame or an "H" type with vertical channel iron it is important to check above AND below early & often for Fire either extending up or dropping down or both .

It was electrical, the BX in the walls and cockloft were the routes of extention
